Yesterday I attended the "TAC" or Toronto Anime Convention, a 'mini-con' sponsored by the same people that run CN Anime in the summer. This one is fondly referred to as 'ghetto-con', by its attendees. The minor $10 cover to get in is a nice break from most conventions (which are usually $30 and up), but really all there was to see was the dealers room. There were loads of people in costume, as usual, but with no real place to go, but miling around the foyer. Most of the fun stuff listed in the brochure was not on the itinerary when we got there.
I met up with some of the guys from the AnimeGusto board, as well as Justin and a friend of his. I managed to score a few deals in the dealers room- two one-shot animes (one was 4 episodes, the other was 12) for $25, a decent Noir poster for $4, and another nice little item that I will not mention here, because someone is getting it for christmas. All in all, not too shabby, considering I restricted myself to spending $40 and under.
I saw a Sailor Stars DVD set for $70, which I ogled for a fairly long time, but I couldn't really justify buying it at this point, so I didn't
Phil bought a bunch of Cowboy Bebop for $10 (VHS) and Justin bought the whole series on DVD. We watched some of it afterward, and I was reminded of why it's one of my favourites. One of these days, if I have money, I'll seriously have to go out and buy all my favourite series. The first and second season Sailor Moon box-sets went up in price again, presumably because ADV seems to have taken them off the market?? It's crazy. Ebay would be my best friend in that situation.
