Amazon goes Grocery....forget your local wholesaler, get food by the truckload

You never know what updates are going to come rolling into your inbox, which is why I do actually opt for emails from certain sites.

So imagine my surprise when I find that Amazon.com has recently added another form of product to their ranks....groceries. Yes, you heard me right, groceries.

Despite the legendary failure of grocerygateway.com, the concept to me has always been solid; it's just the tricky matter of convincing people to buy food online. When it comes to food, people like to 'browse', look at their options, etc.

So Amazon.com now features over 22,000 non-perishable food items- everything from soup to cereal to bread. The real kicker is though, you can't just buy one loaf of bread or one box of cereal, oh no. You have to buy at least a dozen at a time.

So say you're anticipating a Nuclear Holocaust, or perhaps an attack of gigantic evil robots, not a problem! You don't even have to leave your house and risk possible infection from the masses, you can have a 2 year supply of food delivered straight to your door (currently does not include Canada though).

But not only does the grocery section of Amazon offer unique opportunities for avoiding contact with the outside world, but it also offers an interesting cross-section of the American food and beverage industry.

Observe.

Hooah! Soldier Fuel. Yes, you too can drink what the Soldiers drink, because any other way would be unpatriotic and therefore evil. (said purely in jest) I just like the name... kind of like a name and an advertisment of the drink's effects at the same time.

Yes, you read that right- 'Mellow Mut' dog treats. They have Lavender and Hops. "Helps Maintain a Peaceful Lifestyle" This particular company seems to have a lot of interesting dog treats available. If Rover's getting repetitive stress from fetching his ball or going to his doggy yoga classes, just give him some Mellow Mut dog treats.

Mmm....instant Microwavable Hamburger Helper. Wait...where's the beef? *looks at the ingredients* "Freeze Dried Cooked Seasoned Ground Beef". Oh. There it is.

I could go on with this for hours (I'm finding it simply fascinating), but so far that's the cream of the crop. :)

My aunt, the one who won't leave her apartment, uses grocery gateway--it helps with the not leaving her apartment.

Ok, that sounds disgusting. Though, I will say this Amazon thing might be useful in case of the impending zombiboculypse Mark keeps predicting.
