Machinma or Fan-Fiction?

Hi there, I haven't posted much to this blog, well actually not at all, but I did finally want to bring something up. Just recently, I saw the above Halo - Metroid crossover video and though I do like it alot, I wonder what does it represent? Lots of sites were calling it Machinima, but I question that because the video was created directly from 3D models rendered on a personal computer. This differs from other popular Machinima like Red vs Blue or Sims2 Movies, because they actually use the existing video game system and re-edit the material to fit the new story.

If anyone out there is reading this, what do you think, is this really Machinima or just a very well done fan-fiction tribute?
